Excellent performance by the GEN-I Group in 2020

The GEN-I Group ended 2020 in excellent shape. We sold 127.4 terawatt hours of electricity and exceeded planned values in other areas of operations, and achieved a record profit in the amount of €15.4 million. Accompanied by sound financial bases, we entered 2021 with the revolutionary decision to completely halt the supply of electricity from fossil-based energy sources. Our policy of carbon-free electricity is in line with the Group’s commitment to reduce its own carbon footprint and the footprint of society as a whole. In terms of revenues, the GEN-I Group is one of the biggest companies in Slovenia. After fifteen years of continuous growth, we ended the previous business year with capital in excess of €100 million for the first time, while reducing net financial debt. Electricity sales were up by 70% in 2020 and thus exceeded total consumption in Slovenia by 10 times. The majority of electricity is bought and sold on the international markets in Central Europe.

There are many reasons why GEN-I is the largest and most trustworthy electricity supplier in Slovenia. When the COVID-19 crisis began, we reduced our already lowest prices on the market by an additional 15% for all customers. Dr. Robert Golob, President of the Management Board, had the following to say in that regard: “A crisis is no time to be generating profits; it’s a time to show our solidarity with the most vulnerable groups.” We earmarked more than €2 million to efforts aimed at reducing the electricity costs of more than 180 thousand customers.

At the end of 2020, more than 2,100 individual houses were equipped with GEN-I Sonce’s solar power plants. Despite restrictions due to the crisis, GEN-I put almost 850 solar power plants into service last year for the self-sufficient supply of electricity. To that end, we helped our business partners secure €1 million in cohesion funds in the form of grants to support investment in industrial solar power plants. After recently presenting the first solar power plant on an apartment building in Jesenice, we established the first self-sufficient RES community in Budanje pri Ajdovščini.

The GEN-I Group is aware that our employees contribute significantly to positive operating results. For this reason, they receive special attention. Despite the changes the company was forced to face during the epidemic, we continued with intensive investments in employee potential and hired an additional 85 employees last year. The number of employees is thus a nicely rounded figure of 530 committed and motivated individuals who share the target development vision of the GEN-I Group.
